I am a big routine person, and mornings are my favorite part of the day. For me they set the tone for the rest of the day, and this is when I get most of my “me” time. My mornings are almost always the same, so I wanted to share my entire routine here!
Drink water as soon as I wake up
We are dehydrated after (hopefully) sleeping 7-8 hours and not having anything to drink, but most people (including me) ignore this signal first thing in the morning. I usually wake up around 5:30 a.m., and make sure to have a glass of water shortly after to rehydrate and start the day right.
Get ready to head to the gym (or another activity that will get my body moving)
I have to work out in the morning, because if I don’t it just won’t get done. But I know everyone is different! If night time workouts are better for you, then stick with that 🙂 I’ve also been working hard to honor my body’s signals lately and take my workouts easier. I ran the marathon last year and pretty much immediately transitioned into HIIT style workouts, but I have been feeling burned out. Sometimes I get caught up in having to give my workouts 100%, but lately I’ve been cutting out parts of my workout that don’t feel good, or skipping the intense workouts all together and opting to walk. Listen to your body!! Consistency is more important than “perfection”. Overtraining will do more harm than good.
Wash my face immediately after the workout
Maskne is real, which I learned this the hard way after starting to work out in a mask. I was my face as soon as I get home to help prevent it. My all time favorite cleanser is by Replenix, which was recommended to me by my dermatologist years ago and I immediately saw results in my skin. Sometimes my skin can adapt to products and they stop working – but not this one, I have been using it for about 5 years and I don’t plan to switch any time soon.
I have also been using this brush from Amazon – it is pretty inexpensive and I’ve had great results with it! I used to use the Clarisonic Mia, but I needed to make a switch because I didn’t feel like it stayed clean (water and makeup would get below the brush head and it was really hard to maintain for me). I’m really happy with this one so far!
I then moisturize using SkinMD, which is also available on Amazon. They make it with and without using SPF – I choose based on whether I’ll be spending time outside. It goes on very light weight, and is supposed to help build up your skin’s natural barrier!
One more product I have been loving is the Tula Rose Glow and Get it eye balm, I put this on after cleansing (and sometimes before my workout too) and it feels amazing! It hydrates, brightens and cools and actually contains caffeine to make your eyes feel more awake! I feel it right away. It also contains probiotics, and is supposed to help with fine lines and wrinkles long term.
Post Workout Hydration
I go a little crazy with the hydration in the morning, but it’s so important! After my workout, I add sea salt and lemon to a glass of water to help replenish electrolytes. You can also add in some honey for a healthier alternative to sports drinks! I also take my first multivitamin at this time (I do two a day).
My doctor recently told me that I should be drinking green tea every single morning, because the benefits are amazing. It helps your immune system, body detoxification, and contains theanine (which is calming), just to name a few. I will sometimes grab one at Starbucks after my workout, but I have been drinking the Allegro Decaf Green Tea when I make it at home because the caffeine can sometimes make me jittery.
This is the last liquid, I promise! I’m sure you’ve heard of the hype about celery juice that was starting by the medical medium… he has an entire book claiming all of the benefits. Whether or not they are true, I love starting my day with a glass of celery juice (I also add lemon and a little sea salt) to help me get some extra nutrients and keep up my hydration.
I recently got the Start Today Journal by Rachel Hollis, and I swear that it makes a difference in my day. You write down 5 things that you are grateful for, and also write down 10 of your dreams (as if they’ve already happened… ex.: I live my life stress free). I found my journal at Target, but you can also grab one here!
I have been using this planner as well – it is a little intense (and maybe not the prettiest planner), but I think it helps me get things done! It has an hourly breakdown to plan the day, and also has sections for goals, things that have to get done, and other notes. It also gives your daily morning/night time prompts to reflect on your day. Between these two journals, I feel like I am in a much more positive mindset, and more prepared for the day.
Last but not least, I eat my breakfast! This is my go to:
I love this breakfast because it is easy and balanced! Kite Hill Almond Yogurt is vegan, and also includes probiotics just let regular yogurt does. I add three tablespoons of chia seeds for protein. Also, I love this Brown Rice Protein because of the minimal ingredients! I have a sensitive stomach, and proteins with a lot of added ingredients or sweeteners bother me. This one is very plain and doesn’t really have a taste, but I like the texture it adds to my yogurt.
After going through this routine, I’m ready to start my day at work! Again, I am a morning person and very routine based, and this is what I have found works best for me ❤
