Christmas is my favorite time of the year! I love the movies, the decorations, the shopping, and the gifting – but I have also been struggling a bit with the fact that things look much different this year, and that a lot of traditions have had to change. I received so many amazing suggestions on a recent post with ways to make the most of the holiday season while still staying safe and socially distant, and I wanted to share some of them!
1. FaceTime a Family Member to Watch Christmas Movies Together
My biggest struggle this year has been the fact that I haven’t been able to see my family. I thought this was such a cute way to spend time together and keep traditions alive, no matter how far apart you may actually be!
2. Drive Around to see Christmas Lights
This is not a Christmas tradition that I grew up with, but I know that it is a tradition for a lot of people! I typically go to outdoor gardens and walk around to see lights, but I am excited to switch it up this year and drive around to see some new things! I’m sure it will also be MUCH warmer.

3. Make a Gingerbread House
I am very excited about this one! I bought mini gingerbread houses from 5 Below, so we can have a contest to see whose turns out the best! I always love blasting Christmas music while putting the houses together.
4. Make/Decorate Christmas Cookies
I am admittedly not the best baker or the best artist, but I think decorating Christmas cookies is so much fun! If you don’t want to bake the cookies, you can get premade cookies. Some will even come in packs that already include decorations. This is another great thing to turn into a contest (although my family has always had us submit paper votes, and everyone always votes for their own cookie…)
5. Hand Write Christmas Cards and Mail them to a Hospital or Army Base
This is an idea that I saw on Instagram that I am very excited about! This year, I am making cards to send to Cards for Hospitalized Kids (I linked it so you can check it out)! They actually take cards all year long, not just for the Holidays. I just picked up supplies from Target, and I am looking forward to making and sending these!
6. Go on a Road Trip to a Christmas Tree Farm and Walk Around
I got a suggestion to turn tree shopping into a little road trip, and I thought this was such a cute idea! I have an artificial tree, but it is still so much fun to go on a little drive and walk around to see the trees!

7. Have a Christmas Karaoke Party in your Living Room
My boyfriend and I had an impromptu karaoke night in the midst of quarantine stir-craziness, and it was honestly one of the most fun nights ever! Having a Christmas themed version would be such a good time. We picked songs for each other and couldn’t see until the music started, which was hilarious too.
Christmas definitely looks different this year, but that doesn’t mean it can’t still be fun! What are your favorite traditions, and how are you modifying this year? No matter how you are celebrating, I hope you are having an amazing season ❤
